Activities

Moulin Tixier is the ideal base from which to discover the vast range of activities available throughout the year.  Whether it is fishing in the spring, watersports in the summer or skiing in the winter, all are easily accessible.

For those wanting less energetic activities, the local town of Aubusson has tapestry museums, rose gardens and the ruins of an old castle.  The town of Felletin has a great weekly farmer's market and all over the region there are antique street fairs during the summer months.

Lakes

Les Nautes - (12kms) Two small pretty lakes  One is reserved for fishing and the other offers a lovely sandy beach, swimming, canoeing, pedaloes, a children's play park, snack bar and outside restaurant.  During the summer months there are some great concerts during the evenings. 

Lake Vassiviere - (49km) This extensive lake provides beautiful clean sandy beaches with swimming areas, great fishing, sailing, windsurfing, waterskiing and canoeing.  There are restaurants and snack bars.  You can also have a great time at the adventure park l'arbre l'arbre, where you navigate obstacles and walkways in the trees.

 

 

Kayaking

La Sioule - (70km) Set in the beautiful, scenic surroundings of the River Sioule, enjoy the fun and excitement of kayaking.  Great fun for those more adventurous adults and children alike.  There are different routes available offering full or half day outings with varying levels of difficulty.  Click here for all the options.



 

Skiing

Mont Dore/Super-Besse - (75kms) The ski domain of Le Mont-Dore/Super-Besse is situated in the Monts d'Auvergne area of the Puy de Dôme department. The two resorts feature 85kms of runs: 57 runs in total: 20 green pistes, 16 blues, 15 reds and 6 blacks. There are 40 ski lifts. There are also a wide variety of summer activities (hikes, gold prospecting excursions, mountain biking, horse-riding, golf, and an adventure course in the trees.  Ciick here for more details.

 

 

Fishing

The 11,000km of rivers and lakes in Limousin provide some of Europe’s finest fishing - trout and salmon, plus a great variety of coarse fish. At least 12 lakes are open all year and others during the season. The lake at St Suplice Lauriere has carp and pike and day tickets are available at St Suplice town hall. Limousin has over 2,240km of riverbank fishing including 1,956 of prime trout and salmon water. You can even try your hand fishing on our river.  Fishing permits ‘cartes de peche’ can be obtained throughout the region at shops, tabacs, campsites and bars, at reasonable prices.    



 

 

Adventure Parks

Vulcania - (62km) In the heart of the volcanic region of the Auvergne, this adventure park has the motto of 'learn while having fun'.  Everything you need to know about volcanoes, the earth's core and weather systems taught through various rides and experiments.  Just one example is the dragon ride, which plunges you into a 3D world of gaping chasms and gorges inhabited by legendary and awe-inspiring creatures.  See all the great rides and attractions available at www.vulcania.com.



 

 

Other attractions:

Le Labyrinthe - (50km) This is the largest maze in the world covering over 6 acres.  There are numbered trails holding clues which lead you on to the next destination. There is also a picnic area and lots of other activities including a giant chess board, tobagganing and boules. Les Loupes de Chabrieres - (50km) A wildlife park for wolves.  Many species of wolf are being bred in their natural environment and you can get up close to them from observation towers.  This park also has an interesting planetarium.  Visit www.loups-chabrieres.com for more information.
